Equanimity

Space to hold all of life's joys and suffering

A Mindfulness Retreat in the Tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh

Friday, May 13, 2022 through Sunday, May 15, 2022

I have arrived

It can be easy for us to feel overwhelmed by challenges of our personal situation as well as crises in the world, and to feel our hearts closing off in bitterness and resentment. Nevertheless, the Buddhist teachings on equanimity, one of the "Heavenly Abodes," explain that we don't need to get rid of our suffering. As we cultivate our mindfulness and compassion, we can strengthen our equanimity and discover that we have space that allows us to hold all of life's sorrows and joys. The retreat is an opportunity to come home to the essential mindfulness practices--breathing, walking, eating--and come back in touch with the many wonders of life within and around us in each moment. Taking refuge in our ancestors and in the community of spiritual friends who support us, we will learn how to grow the Truly Peaceful Heart inside of ourselves.

Lay Teacher: Michael Ciborski

After ordaining as a monk under Thich Nhat Hanh and living and training for 7 years in the Plum Village Monastery (France), Michael returned in 2003 to the US, where he helped to establish MorningSun, a spiritual community & mindfulness centre. He continues to teach and lead retreats all over North America. For more about Michael, see his webpage Teaching and support in Mindfulness Practice and Meditation.
